Feeding fodder beet presents animal health challenges and therefore requires attention to detail throughout the grazing. The low phosphorus content needs to be addressed while feeding to heifers and cows. A phosphorus deficiency can negatively impact on the animal’s appetite causing rapid weight loss and lowering the animal’s fertility.
Best practice guide:
1) Only put out sufficient Just Beet it for 3 days requirements. If animals consume more than their daily allocation within the 3 days, do not top-up until day 4.
2) Follow the feeding guidelines to prevent animals from gorging. Their consumption can be elevated in the beginning but will settle down once the trace element status is improved.
3) Ensure additional magnesium is provided to meet daily requirements.
Provide enough trough space so cows can easily access Just Beet it.
4) During high periods of rainfall, suspend adding Just Beet it to the feed trough.
